Wed 01-28-09

Tuesday the temperatures were in the 30's with rain. Last night the rain continued and this morning there was lots of ICE.
Today after the ICE melted, we took the dogs with us and we drove to "McCown Valley Park". This is a Corps of Engineers Campground. This, like all Corps of Engineers Campgrounds, has a great view. Just inside the park we waited for a heard of 25 deer to cross the road. We stopped for pictures. After touring the campground, we returned to the gate house to see the Ranger. The Ranger was setting out feed and the deer were walking up to the gatehouse to eat. We watched and have more pictures.
We then drove to "Lake Whitney State Park". The state park is good BUT not as nice as the Corps of Engineers park. Also, with a "Senior Pass", the "Corps " park is 1/2 price.
At 6:30 Sylvia and I met Margaret at "Black Eyed Peas" for Dinner. Today is Margaret"s 86th birthday. We had a great visit and dinner.

Sunday Whitney

This morning we attended church with Margaret, Richard, Marvin, and Ginger. Richard was the guest speaker and spoke against evolution with a slide show from the results from MT.Saint Helens. A well done and convincing talk. Great job Richard!
We all went to "Two Amigo's" for lunch. The meals were great and at a good price. Marvin, Richard, and Ginger had to return to Houston for work tomorrow. This afternoon we visited Margaret at her home.
That's all for now.

Whitney Lake RV

Saturday morning we are up at 6:30 to pack up. Today is moving day. With everything packed up before 8 am we decided to have breakfast of Texas toast and bacon in the Activity Center. After breakfast, we walked the dogs, pulled in the slides and checked out of Rainbows End.
The trip to Whitney was uneventful. We were in the campsite about 3:30. The camp office was close so we set up in a site.
We drove to Margaret's and found Marvin, Herbert, Richard, Ginger, Iva, and John. Colinda had came down from Dallas.
Some of these people I had not seen in years. We returned to the RV about 8 pm.

Thursday Jan 22

This morning temps were in the 40's and rose to 65 by 11 am. The wood to hold the printer under the chair was notched and painted. The printer now has a new home, out of the way.
Sylvia had her driving test today. Of course she passed. No problem. With that completed we are now free to continue the travels.
This evening we attended a dinner at the Activity Center, at 6 dollars each it seemed like a bargain. Tomorrow we are to go to dinner with 4 other work campers to a place called "Florida's". We stopped at the place Sunday after church but the parking lot was filled and we did not go in.

We hope to leave here on Saturday to visit Margaret in Whitney, TX. Her birthday is next Wednesday. We now have to call Lisa and see if she can come down from Lubbock for next weekend.

Jan. 21, 09 Livingston, TX

Monday we were up and had the motor home to "The RV Shack" for the safety inspection. The process takes about 45 minuets. Then it was the Car. The remainder of the day was clothes washing. Monday evenings there is a movie at the "Club House". "Moma Mia" is a funny musical.
Tuesday we got the plates for both vehicles and I got my drivers license. I failed to pass the vision test and had to see the Eye doctor for glasses. Sylvia passed the written exam and will take the driving exam Thursday afternoon.
Today we drove to Wally world for the usual food and things. This afternoon we went to "Lowes" for lumber to store the printer under the recliner chair. We also found a carpet to fit between the front seats. This is just a scatter rug.
Todays picture are our site with no neighbors and the "Escapees Mail " building.

Livingston, Texas 01-17-09

Saturday, the overnight lows were in the 40's. We drove into the city to have the car inspected. The first place we stopped did not have the proper paper work and the next place will not inspect cars on Saturday. We expect to have both inspected on Monday. So we stopped at Pizza Hut for lunch then came home.
Here at the park I washed the motor home. This process takes about 2 hours. The last time I washed it was when we were in Summerdale, Al in November.
Things are beginning to come together for the licensing here Just have to follow there routine, strange as it seems. We have to inspect the vehicles before they cam be licensed. The inspection places cannot inspect out of state vehicles without issuing a green sheet of paper for me to present to the tax office so them can issue plates. THAT'S TEXAS!
The sky tonight was colorful so I took a picture.
This evening we attended the bonfire and have pictures.

Livingston, Texas 01-15-09

The nights have been cold here. Cold being about 28 to 30 degrees. The days have gotten up to the mid to high 60's. Very pleasant for a winter day.
Wednesday I took the your of the "Care" unite here at "Rainbows End". This is a "Adult Day Care" for RV'ers. People who are recovering from operations, etc. or just want to rest and not cook meals can come to care, for a price, ave those jobs completed by the "care" unite.
We washed sheets and hung the wash out on our cloths line hanging from the ladder.
This evening we had supper in the "Activity Center". Lemon chicken with potatoes, vegetables, and Peach Cobbler for dessert.
Sylvia is feeling better but still has to complete the Medication.
Pictures are our "Site" at "Rainbows End".

Tuesday 01-13-09

This morning the temperatures are cold, 30 F. We went on the campground tour including the mail service. The mail handling is a real show. The remainder of the tour included a drive around the deeded sites. This is a large campground with 200 deeded sites and 150 rental sites. After the tour had lunch at the clubhouse.
Sylvia is still sickly and spent the afternoon on the couch resting.
I called the AON insurance company for a quote on the RV and car. We also have a quote from Miller insurance. Now I have to look them over and decide which will be best.
Till Tomorrow.

Livingston, Texas 01-12-09

We arrived in Livingston, Texas Sunday at 5 pm. We expect to be here about 2 weeks. We have to license both the car and the motor home before we can change the drivers licenses.
This morning while walking the dogs, Roy Dalton called to me from the "Activity Center". We chatted a few minuets as he had to return to his assigned task. Roy and Barb were work campers in Summerdale, Al while we were camped there. This was a surprise meeting for both of us. Sure is great to meet people that you know in a new place.
This evening we attended a movie at the clubhouse. This campground has many activities. Tomorrow we will go on a get acquainted tour of the Campground.
That's it for now.

Brandon, MS

This morning was warm and clear. I walked out and have a few pictures of our site and the boat launch area. Sylvia and I completed the laundry, then it was time for lunch. We decided to see if there was a fast food place close by. We found "Fernando" and took a chance. The food was great along with the service.
While we were eating the rains arrived. The rain was very heavy. When we arrived home, I took the camera out to show the water around us. I will post pictures.
Tomorrow is travel day. We expect to go into Texas, a trip of 250 miles.

Brandon, MS

This morning we checked out of Allegro Campground, Red Bay, Al. and drove to Brandon, MS. We got on the "Natchez Trace" in Tupelo, MS. The drive was uneventful, just the way we like it. We are now in "Timberlake Campground" in Brandon, MS. Located on the "Ross Barnett Reservoir". Site N7 is at the waters edge and has a nice view. We did not take any pictures before dark but will try tomorrow if the rain allows. We expect to be here two nights as we do not want to drive during storms.
We did stop for lunch and have pictures of that. Clicking on the pictures will enlarge them.

Wed-01-07-09

Today we woke up to SUNSHINE! How great that is to see. We have been in Alabama one Month and today is the third or forth day of Sunshine. We are not complaining, but it sure is good to see the Sun. Along with the sunshine came the wind, but that's better than liquid. Tonite the wind has died down and will be a good night.
Today we found a Doctor here in Red Bay cause Sylvia is not feeling well. Kinda congested and draining sinuses. The Doctor was able to see her today and prescribed antibiotics. Just trying to avoid serious problems.
We put together a puzzle yesterday to kill time.
Today we called the car insurance office in Massachusetts and no answer. HHUUUUUMMMMM
Went on line and checked the weather---They have ICE. We will have to call them tomorrow.
Before and after of the puzzle and a picture of Home. Click on the pictures to see "Snowflake" in the window.

This morning we packed up and drove to Red Bay, Al. The front AC heatpump is making strange noises. We arrived at noon and are in site 5. The rain started about 2 pm and continues now. The water is off in the park, we will have to add water to our holding tank tomorrow. We have filled out the paperwork and now just have to Waite for the schedule.
This afternoon we went to "FREDS" to find a storage crate for cook books etc. This evening after dinner we played "Cribbage".
Tomorrow we may take pictures, weather permitting.

01-01-09 Decatur, Al

Happy New Year! We hope this year brings you hope, joy, and happiness. The temperatures have been cool day times and cold nights. Last night we disconnected the water line to keep from freezing. Not a big deal, but it is if the hose freezes.
Today Glenn Jr called and invited us to attend a movie and lunch in Huntsville. The movie was "Bedtime Stories". A good kids movie.
We just had to add a picture of the two dogs, Snowflake and Bandit.
