Friday 10-07-08

Thursday morning we drove to the post office after breakfast. The mail from Texas had not arrived. We stopped at the propane store to check on the price. At 3:49 a gallon, we will shop elsewhere. The gauge on the motor home indicates empty. We returned home to pack up the RV so that we can go to Ace Hardware in Foley, Al. for propane. there price is 2.79 a gallon. This is the first propane fill sence we were in Monson, Ma. The pack up is the same as a move, every thing must be secure. While we were out we also made a Fuel stop. Diesel at 3.59. We returned home to the same site, #81.
This morning the weather is warm, 65 degrees, and overcast. The rain started at 10 am and stayed all day. We washed clothes and made a cake. Tomorrow will be a better day.

Wednesday 10-05-08

Up at 6. Wow can you imagine that. Us up at 6 am??? Well we did and we left the RV at 7 am and drove with Paul and June to Pensacola, Fl. to watch the "Blue Angles" fly. We arrived on base at 8:15 and were informed that the "Air Show" had been canceled. Well now what? The museum was opened to allow the masses entry as the normal opening was 9:30 am. Paul is a retired Navy Chief aviation Machinist Mate. It was a joy to visit with Paul and discuss his navy career and the aircraft that he had worked with.
We ate lunch in the Chief's Club,then walked on the beach and in the surf. We stopped at the Light House but it was closed for repair. Then drove to Fort Barrancas which is located on the navy base. The history starts with the Spanish in1698 and was a contested area during the America Revolution. The Spanish recaptured the fort in1781. The fort was seized from the Spanishin 1814 and again in 1818. Flordia became a state in 1821.

Election day 08

Today is election day. Hope everyone voted for the candidate of their choice.
Today started out overcast and cool. the sun came out and we had a fine day. We washed clothes then drove to Walmart. Lorine picked up her meds and a little groceries.
When we returned home I noticed motor home with a Ham antenna. After unloading the car I walked the dogs over to the motor home. The guys name is Russ and he will be work-camping here till December.
Tonight Lorine(Sylvia) and I played cribbage then watched tv. Tomorrow we have to get up at 6 am so that we can go to Pensacola, Fl. to watch the "Blue Angles" fly and also get autographs. We will be with Paul and June our neighbors.

Monday 10-03 08

Well what happened to Saturday and Sunday! Saturday I cut up the short board to make lege to make a free standing shelf. I also applied stain and varnish. The weather being warm and a little breezy we sat outside and enjoyed the nice day.
Sunday we attended church at the Marlow Methodist Church. After noon we drove to Home Depot to buy a "Strut" to hold the mud flap to the rear of the RV. While there Lorine found a "Totem Pole" as a yard ornament. Our neighbors Paul and June came over to look at the totem pole. Lorine said that she wanted our names painted on it. Paul and June laid out and painted the names and what a great job . Later they came over for a game of "Mexican Train". The great evening ended around 8 pm.
Monday, the ladies decided to shop at "Hobby Lobby". Paul and I stayed home and washed, shined the rv and add another layer of finish on the "shelf". We went to lunch at "Mellow Mushroom" pizza.
Again I do not have pictures, but had a great day.

Pot Luck 10-31-08

Today we paid the rent and light bill, drove to the post office and picked up the mail. Our ballots were there so we voted and returned the ballots to Texas. with that completed we were off to Walmart for bread etc. While in the area we also drove to Home Depot for a board to make a shelf.
Home then to make the pie for tonight's pot luck supper.
Pot Luck's are about the best eating dinner that we have had in some time. There were about 100 people attending tonight. The food was excellent and lots of it. Paul and June , Tim and Sally sat with us at the table.
We are back at the RV now to relax and enjoy the evening.

Mom's Birthday

Thursday is Lorine (Sylvia)'s birthday. Paul and June joined us for a tour to "Bellingrath Gardens and Home" located near Mobile, Al. Walter & Bessy Bellingrath were originators of Coca Cola. The house was constructed in 1935 at a fishing camp.
The trip started about 10:30 am. The drive was 1 hour. We arrived about 11:45, parked, found the entry and lunchroom. We all had a drink and a snack. Now we are ready for the tour and wandering around the garden. There are several gardens, most with benches and gazebos. There are rose gardens, a conservatory, a Butterfly Garden, Lush lawns, a Bayou Boardwalk, a mirror Lake, and an Asian American Garden. The tour is about 2 miles long as the walks wind throught the gardens.
The artisan wells provide water for the fountains and gardens. The paths are paved with brick. Mum's are blooming now and the lights are being installed for the up-coming Christmas Season.
This is truly a place not to be missed while in the Moblie area.
The house tour was included in the 19 dollar admission. This grand house is filled with antiques of furniture, silver, china, crystal, and cut glass. The exterior, featuring handmade brick and iron work from a landmark 19th century Mobile hotel is equally as captivating in its design. This is amazing how much 5 cents a bottle for coke can do.
We ended the tour and by now were ready for something to eat. We headed to "Felix's Fish Camp". This has been voted "Mobiles Favorite". The place is located right on Mobile Bay, The views from the 2 nd floor dining room are fantistic. The service and food were exceptional.
The sun was setting as we crossed the Bay on route 10. With no place to turn out, we have no pictures of the sunset.
We arrived home after dark and the two dogs, Bandit and Snowflake, were excited to see us.
We had a wonderful day with our neighbors Paul and June, thank you very much.

Cold day

Monday started out warm and windy. The wind from the north became cooler every hour. The overnight low was 43 degrees. Tonight's low is forecast to be 34 degrees. Can't wait for warmer weather.
Yesterday and today we washed clothes and just hung around the campground. Every now and then you need that kind of a day.
The campground is getting more campers, some may be here for the fall rally in Florida.
Tomorrow may bring warmer weather.
