Satuyday we visited "Michie Tavern" near Charolttesville, VA. Established in 1784 as a social center of the community and to accommodate travelers with food, drink, and lodging.
The tavern today recreates 18th century life. We just had to try on the hats.
The tavern offers a "Hearty Midday Fare" of chicken,or pulled pork.
This was followed with peach Cobbler. We also toured the inn. The rooms were very crudely furnished.
The beds are strung with rope and a straw mattress. note the chamber pot.
The owners suite is better equipped.
The privy.
The spring house.
The smoke house.
The water wheel at the grist mill.
The food was good, the tour was enlighting.
