Presidio La Bahia

Thursday we took the dogs and walked the trails in the state park. The trails lead to the river and tent campsites.

Today we toured the"Prisidio La Bahai" which is about 2 miles, across the San Antonio river. This is considered the world's finest example of a Spanish frontier fort. This is the most fougt over fort in Texas history, participating in six Wars for independence. The "Massacre of Goliad" was performed here.

The "Angel of Goliad", a woman in Santa Anna's army saved the lives of 25 "prisioners" by helping them escape prior to the "Massacre" of 341 soldiers on Palm Sunday 1836, before the "Alamo". There is a statue of her on the mission grounds.

The fort overlooks the town of Goliad and the town hall can be seen over the trees.
